What are Claude Projects and how do they help with ongoing work?

Claude Projects is a feature in claude.ai that lets you create a persistent workspace for a specific topic or task. Inside a Project you can upload files and documents that Claude always has access to, write custom instructions that apply to every conversation in that project, and keep all related chats organized in one place. It is designed for ongoing work rather than one-off questions.

The biggest advantage of Projects is the persistent knowledge base. For example, if you are working on a software product, you can upload your design documents, coding standards, and product requirements to a Project. Then every conversation in that Project automatically has access to all of that context without you having to re-upload or re-explain it every time.

Custom instructions in a Project let you set a persistent system prompt for all conversations in that space. You can tell Claude things like always respond in bullet points, use our internal terminology, or you are helping a team of backend engineers — and those instructions will apply automatically in every chat within that Project.

Projects are available to Claude Pro and higher subscribers. They are especially useful for professionals who use Claude regularly for the same type of work, like a marketer who always works with the same brand guidelines, a developer who always works in the same codebase, or a researcher who has a library of reference papers they query repeatedly.
